P. J. Hoffmaster State Park features several habitats supporting wildlife and plant life.
|
P. J. Hoffmaster State Park rests along two and a half miles of beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline where visitors can frolic at water's edge amid towering sand dunes. Tucked between Lake Michigan and Little Black Lake, the park has many natural attractions amid several habitats From the flat beaches to the ancient sand dunes, bird life is plentiful. Upland birds habitat the wooded areas while shoreline birds feast at water's edge. Raptors can be seen soaring on the air currents of the dunes when winds are from the east. Bird enthusiasts find this park particularly rewarding each May when migrating orioles, wood thrushes, and scarlet tanagers pass through for rest and rejuvenation. Two notable man-made attractions include The Gillette Sand Dune Visitor Center and the expansive dune stairs that lead to 360-degree views.
